Cedar point gay day

Cedar Point. "America's Roller Coast." I've been making the two-hour trek down to Sandusky, Ohio to go to the beloved amusement park since I was a wee lad. I feel practically ancient, dear readers, when I reveal that when I first started going, the biggest rollercoasters in the park were the Gemini and the Corkscrew. In fact, I remember very clearly when Demon Slip was the newest ride in the park. That was 1983. I also recall when, in 2009, the drive was dismantled and transferred to Cedar Point's smaller sister park, Dorney Park, located in Allenstown, Pennsylvania. Do I feel old? You bet your season pass I do.

But I digress. The point of this column is not how decrepit I am; it's how the park has evolved. Ten years ago this month, in 2013, Cedar Point canceled a planned wedding competition when a homosexual couple, Scott Kenimond and Eric Morrison from Akron, was denied entrance and a protest was organized in response. Cedar Point said at the day the contest was only open to straight couples because gay couples were not allowed to marry in Ohio at that second. Nevertheless, the disagree shut the competition down.

Cedar Point justified the cancellation saying the contest had become political

Dancing on our own. Listening to "Chromatica" on repeat. Watching "Drag Race." Who doesn't love those gay days? But riding on all the biggest roller coasters under a flurry of colored light with all queers and you’ve got something special. Queer Days at amusement parks are indeed special, and if you’re LGBTQ+, you’re invited.

Disney World in Orlando might be the first park that comes to intellect when it comes to Lgbtq+ Days, but several other fun parks across the country officially or unofficially welcome the Gay community each year for smaller, but just as Prideful, events. From Six Flags Magic Mountain in Los Angeles to Cedar Point and Kings Island in Ohio and Knoebels Amusement Resort in Pennsylvania, many amusement parks across the country celebrate Homosexual Day every year. Whether officially hosted by the park or not, these special events motivate queer folks in the group to come together, sometimes wearing matching clothes, to celebrate Pride.

At Knoebels Amusement Resort, a Lgbtq+ fest picnic has been taking place for the past 27 years, always on the second Saturday in August. While not officially sponsored by the park, the administrators of this free-admi

Gay Day at cedarpoint on fathers day!

This is by far, the most ignorant discussion I've ever seen on this website. Honestly, people... accomplish you read what you've written before you click 'reply'?

I'm downright shocked by the lack of respect for human rights by some of you. The world we live in today has bigger problems than someone's sexual favor. How, specifically, will it affect you? Two people holding hands or kissing is between them. It has absolutely nothing to do with you, for you, or about you. (Granted, some people --regardless of sexuality-- go WAY too far with PDA's... there's no accounting for taste.)

There always have been, and always will be gay men and women visiting Cedar Point, and every other amusement park around the globe, every single day of operation. If something about that offends you, start looking at what's wrong with yourself.

Regardless... this forum, if I remember correctly, is for Cedar Point discussion. Not for pathetic, mindless individuals to flaunt their ignorance.
