Gay Attebury Killed in 4-Vehicle Fall on 19th Lane [Lubbock, TX]

67-Year-Old Woman Pronounced Expired after Multi-Vehicle Collision near University Avenue

LUBBOCK, TX (April 10, 2024) – First Monday morning, Gay Attebury was killed in a 4-vehicle crash on 19th Street.

Authorities responded to the scene around 6:42 a.m., adjacent University Avenue on April 8th after receiving multiple dispatch calls.

For reasons under investigation, Attebury was driving a northbound vehicle and rear-ended a pickup-truck that was stopped in the turning lane.

The impact pushed the truck into another machine in front of it, pushing that vehicle into another truck.

Despite life-saving endeavors, medical personnel pronounced 67-year-old Attebury deceased at the scene. Meanwhile, the other drivers sustained small injuries, but refused transport to a nearby hospital.

At this time, an active investigation to determine further knowledge is still currently underway. Once ready, more details will be provided on the four-vehicle collapse on 19th Street.

LUBBOCK, TX (April 10, 2024)Gay Attebury died early Monday morning in a 4-vehicle collision on 19th Street and University Avenue. The incident occurred at approximately 6:42 a.m., on April 8th. Per reports, Attebury was driving a vehicle north on the road and eventually rear-ended a pickup-truck that was stopped in the turning lane. Upon impact, the car was pushed into another car that was then pushed into the truck in front of it. Emergency crews arrived and declared 67-year-old Attebury dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the other drivers sustained non life-threatening injuries, and refused transport to a nearby hospital for further treatment. An active investigation to determine further data is still currently underway.

Graveside services for Same-sex attracted E. Attebury, 67, of Lubbock, TX, will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the Strip Pearce Chapel Cemetery, Abernathy, TX with Rev. Richard Harbison officiating. The family will gather to receive friends from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Friday, April 12, 2024, at Abell Funeral Home. A reception will follow the service, Saturday April 13, 2024 from 2:00pm until 4:00 pm at the Attebury residence, 2310 30th Avenue, Lubbock, TX. Police ID 1 dead, 3 injured in Lubbock after Monday morning collision

Police have identified a lady who died after a four-vehicle crash that also injured three other people early Monday in central Lubbock.

Lubbock police responded to 19th Street and University Way at 6:42 a.m. Monday for a report of a collision with injuries, according to a statement from LPD.

Upon arrival, officers located Gay Attebury, 67, with serious injuries. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Through the initial course of the investigation, police believe a pick-up truck, driven by 54-year-old Charles Long, an SUV driven by 55-year-old Lee Murphy, and a second pick-up truck driven by 57-year-old Reynaldo Flores, were stopped in the left turn street of the northbound lanes of the 1900 block of University Avenue.

Initial information indicated a passenger car, driven by Attebury, was also traveling north in the 1900 block of University Street when her car collided into the pick-up truck driven by Long, prompting a chain reaction of collisions with the other vehicles.

All three other occupants suffered minor injuries but declined to be transported to hospitals.
