Jason Kelce Apologizes For Using Same Anti-Gay Slur Against Heckler Who Taunted His Brother In Viral Phone Smashing Video

Jason Kelce issued an on-air apology for repeating an anti-gay slur directed at his brother Travis Kelce by a heckler whose device he smashed in an incident that went viral on social media over the weekend.

“Everybody has seen what happened,” Kelce began at the superior of ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown broadcast. “I’m not joyful with anything that took place. I’m not proud of it. In a heated moment I chose to greet detest with hate, and I just don’t think that’s a productive thing, I really don’t. I don’t think it leads to discourse and it’s [not] the right way to go about things.”

In a series of clips that gained traction on Saturday, a man could be heard provoking Jason Kelce as he used an anti-gay slur against his brother in reference to his relationship with singer Taylor Swift. Prior to the No. 3 Nittany Lions' clash with No. 4 Ohio State in State College, a fan taunted Kelce with a homophobic slur directed at his brother, Travis, and his relationship with pop superstar Taylor Swift.

Kelce, who was in State College to emerge on ESPN's "College GameDay," was followed by a fan who said to him, "Kelce, how does it feel that your brother is a f***** for dating Taylor Swift?"

The former NFL lineman responded by turning around, taking the fan's phone, smashing it to the ground and taking it away.

Here's a clip of the incident from a different vantage point, during which the slur can be clearly heard.

Another video showed that Kelce didn't just step away after smashing the smartphone. He turned around and confronted the fan with the matching anti-gay slur in response, which could potentially lead to some backlash.

Former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce appeared to smash the phone of a man who called his brother, Travis, a gay slur for dating celestial body artist Taylor Swift.

Kelce, now a football analyst with ESPN, attended the Penn State vs. Ohio State game Saturday when videos of the incident on social media, which were verified by NBC News, circulated.

Multiple angles showed Kelce walking through the crowd with a case of beer in his hand when a man in the background could be heard shouting in Kelce's advice before using the slur.

Kelce then appeared to shift around, grab the phone, smash it on the earth, pick it up off the floor and walk away. A different angle appeared to reveal the man follow after Kelce asking for the handset back, to which words were exchanged.

Another angle showed Kelce repeating the slur back at the man three times in interrogate form after picking up the cell off the ground.

The man's identity -- whether he was a student or general spectator -- was not immediately known.

ESPN did not have a comment when initially reached out to by NBC10 Philadelphia.
