Trump Hosts LGBT Gala, Can’t Expect Evangelical Support for That: Perkins
The Log Cabin Republicans, an LGBT group, hosted their “Spirit of Lincoln” gala Thursday nighttime at Mar-a-Lago, the residence of former president Donald Trump. As Politico described the festivities, the event was a “joyous celebration of gay rights and — in a case of ironic timing — the historic same-sex marriage law signed by President Joe Biden days earlier.” Trump himself delivered “an enthusiastic affirmation of gay rights,” Politico continued. Said Trump, “We are fighting for the same-sex attracted community, and we are fighting and fighting hard.”
“It’s not the first age, actually, that we’ve seen the Log Cabin [Republicans] own an event there in Mar-A-Lago,” said FRC president Tony Perkins on “Washington Watch.” In proof, “other Republican leaders have been emotionally attached in the past. What was encouraging to see this time around [was] that we did not see the RNC involved.”

President Biden kicked off Celebration Month this year with a note to LGBTQ+ Americans, posting "your president and my entire Administration have your back."
Former President Trump has been calm on social media when it comes to LGBTQ+ issues and railed against trans women’s participation in sports at a recent campaign rally in Vegas.
If it wasn’t already clear, these uppermost two presidential candidates hold distinct views on LGBTQ+ issues.
Throughout his presidency, Biden has used his office to state support for Diverse people, celebrate Gender non-conforming Day of Representation and Pride Month, and regularly produce social media calls about the issues LGBTQ+ people meet. His administration has worked to start antidiscrimination protections for sexual orientation and gender identity, as well as greater access to gender-affirming care.

A lgbtq+ wedding between two men — one of whom is a senior official with a national pro-LGBT conservative group — was held this weekend at the resort that is also the residence of former President Donald Trump.
The Feb. 23 ceremony held at Mar-a-Lago for John Sullivan, vice chair and treasurer for the Tennessee Log Cabin Republicans, and his partner, Dan Medora, sparked some backlash online against Trump after the Republican group shared images from the event.
The organization wrote in a Feb. 25 post on Facebook: “An amazing time was had by all at John Sullivan and Dan Medora’s unforgettable wedding at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, FL. A celebration of love and style that will be cherished forever. Thanks for the astonishing weekend, fellas!”

Former President Donald Trump is facing criticism from some conservatives after his Florida estate Mar-a-Lago hosted a same-sex marriage.
John Sullivan, vice chair and treasurer of the Tennessee Log Cabin Republicans and his husband Dan Medora, got married at Mar-a-Lago on February 23, according to an Instagram post from the organization, which is comprised of and advocates for LGBTQ+ Republicans.
"An amazing hour was had by all @john__sullivan__ & @dmedo's unforgettable wedding at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, FL. A celebration of love and style that will be treasured forever. Thanks for the marvelous weekend, fellas!" the Log Cabins Republicans of Tennessee wrote in the post.
Sullivan told Newsweek in a statement Friday the wedding was at "one of the most stunning locations in the world. He praised the Mar-a-Lago team as being "inclusive since day 1" and having a "fantastic time."
"It was a privilege and honor to host our guests there. It was absolutely perfect, magical and beyond our dreams. Our guests and we will cherish this very exceptional time shared together," he said.
